Words are important!

Words are definitely important…particularly AND especially to God.

Scripture SPEAKS…
Romans 4 3For what saith the scripture?

Galatians 4 30Nevertheless what saith the scripture?

The Bible says ANOTHER NAME for God, the Son, is the Word.
John 1  1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God.  3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Revelation 19 15And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.  16And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
His words are POWERFUL.  He created heaven and earth with them.

Genesis 1 1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Psalm 33 6By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

It is by PREACHING the Word, that we are saved.

Romans 1  16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

1 Corinthians 1 18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
God tells us in the Bible that He considers EVERY one of his words important!  …not just once, but TWICE!

Matthew 4 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Luke 4 4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
God tells us His words ARE NOT to be tampered with!!

Deuteronomy 4  2Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

Proverbs 30  5Every word of God is pure: … 6Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Revelation 22  18For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:  19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

…”Scripture” refers to the actual words ON THE PAGE.  God tells us we do things wrong because we don’t know what He has had WRITTEN DOWN for us.

Matthew 22 29Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

Mark 12 24And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

Since we can trust God, we can TRUST THE WORDS He has preserved for us.

Psalm 12  6The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.  7Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

We know what God thinks of His words.  But, what does God say OUR words should be?

Psalm 19  14Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Ephesians 4 29Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying [build other up, rather than tear them down], that it may minister grace [give to others that which they don’t deserve] unto the hearers.

Ephesians 4 31Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:  32And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Words are LIFE…
John 6 63It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Words can also be DEATH …
Romans 8 5For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.  6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Words, before they are spoken, are formed from the thoughts in one’s mind.   Therefore, it is important that we THINK, and then think again (and maybe even again) BEFORE WE SPEAK.

Romans 8 5For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit [do mind] the things of the Spirit

Philippians 2 3Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

Romans 12  17Recompense to no man evil for evil [show mercy]. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.  18If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.  19Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

We need to SPEAK good words…
Proverbs 25 11A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
Ephesians 4 29Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
